Android Gateway 6 Release Notes

The notes below provide descriptions of the new features and changes introduced with each release of Android Gateway. You are strongly encouraged to read about the relevant changes whenever you upgrade from an earlier version. Potential compatibility issues are highlighted in RED.

You can get the latest version of Android Gateway from the Eggplant downloads page.

Compatibility

Runs on: Windows 10. macOS 11. macOS 10.15, macOS 10.14, macOS 10.13. RedHat 7; CentOS 7; Ubuntu 16.

Connects to: Android 5.0 and later. Minimum API version 21.

Supported browsers: Recent versions of Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge

Ports: HTTP: 32000; TCP 5900-5950 (VNC); TCP 8100-8150 (WebDriver)

Note: Testing Android versions older than 5.0 requires Android Gateway 5.6 or earlier.

Note: Starting with Android Gateway 6.0, Windows 7 and macOS 10.12 are not supported. Use Android Gateway 5.6 instead.

Bug Fixes

  • Addresses an issue that happened when attempting to connect Android Gateway while using VPN.

6.1 (22 October 2020)

Features

  • Adds support for Android 11.

Bug Fixes

  • Supports connecting more than nine Android devices to one instance of Android Gateway.
  • Fixes an issue with automation using Appium drivers.
  • Using the LaunchApp command now changes the auto-rotate settings on Android devices.
  • Fixes an issue where the Gateway could not be stopped in some situations.

6.0.2 (16 April 2020)

Features

  • A browser now launches when Android Gateway starts and provides instructional material.
  • A landing page now appears if no device appears.
  • Adds improved messaging when Android Gateway doesn't start properly.
  • The Host IP address now appears in the footer of the Android Gateway page.
  • The location of the log directory is now provided in the Console and noted in documentation.
  • Users can now define device nicknames.
  • Improves error messages throughout Android Gateway.

Bug Fixes

  • Mock locations are now enabled when automation starts.
  • Settings now consistently save on Windows.
  • Reverse connections are now disabled by default.
  • Sending usage data no longer causes Android Gateway to hang on launch.
  • "Loading…" now appears when opening Android Gateway after the first launch.
  • The interface no longer hangs when Android Gateway is stopping.

Compatibility

  • Starting with Android Gateway 6.0, Windows 7 and macOS 10.12 are not supported. If you test on those operating systems, you must use Android Gateway 5.6, which is available on the Eggplant downloads website.

6.0.1 (4 February 2020)

  • Adds notarization for macOS 10.15 (Catalina).
  • Adds new version update notification.

6.0 (7 January 2020)

  • Windows 7 and macOS 10.12 are no longer supported.

Features

  • Completely new UI that's consistent with DAI 4.0.
  • The UI is no longer required to be visible at all times, and can be opened from a system tray or status bar icon.
  • Adds support for command line executions.
  • Streamlines the application for ease of use.
  • Improves overall stability.
  • Improves readability of log files.
  • Adds more information to log files.

Bug Fixes

  • Users no longer need to change WebDriver port numbers to avoid conflicts when using multiple Android Gateway instances.
  • The UI now shows accurate updates based on the statuses of devices.
