Editing Virtual User Scripts

The external text editor is launched from within Eggplant Performance Studio whenever you double-click a source code file, or right-click a source code file and select Edit from the drop-down menu.

When you first install Eggplant Performance, SciTE is set as the default text editor. You can change the default text editor in Eggplant Performance Studio Preferences by going to Tools > Preferences on the main menu.

You also use the external text editor to edit other files, such as data source files.

SciTE

Eggplant Performance is installed with a version of SciTE, a free source code editor for Win32 and X.

SciTE is a powerful text editor with automatic syntax styling and is able to hold in memory multiple files at a time.

Note: SciTE is used purely for editing scripts. It is not used to compile or build scripts. Script compilation is performed either by Eggplant Performance or a configured integrated development environment (IDE).

Integrated Development Environments

Because Eggplant Performance virtual user scripts are implemented by using industry standard programming languages, it makes sense for them to be edited and developed with industry standard IDEs. Using an IDE opens up powerful features for editing and building (e.g., IntelliSense and auto-completion).

IDE Configuration

To configure the workspace IDEs:

  1. Select Tools > Preferences from the Eggplant Performance Studio main menu.
  2. On the Studio Preferences screen, select the Compilers and IDEs tab in the left sidebar.
  3. For each virtual user script type you plan to use (i.e., Java, C#, C++), set the path to the IDE in the appropriate field.

For more information about Studio preferences, see Setting Eggplant Performance Studio Preferences.

For a complete list of supported IDEs and versions, see Prerequisites for Installation.

Note: IntelliSense is active only after the workspace or project has first been built within the IDE.
