User Journeys

Real Customer Insights (RCI) enables you to gather valuable insights to understand how your website performs in terms of conversion, bounce rate, user engagement, and revenue. After collecting user metrics, the RCI platform automatically generates data files that contain seven days' worth of the user journey data. You can import this data into Eggplant DAI to enhance exploratory testing.

From the imported user journeys, Eggplant DAI prioritises certain paths through a model. For example, the most common user journeys, or those that have the highest financial value are prioritized. Those journeys with errors will have a much lower weighting. This increases the probability of replicating a real user journey during a test run.

Typically, the top ten results of each of the journey types are included in the user journey data file. Some user journeys have more than one type, i.e., a user journey categorized under most common type can also be tagged against ten highest value user journeys.

Find a User Journey

Go to Designer > User Journeys to view all imported user journeys.

You can filter user journeys by model or search for user journeys by name.

View a User Journey Flow

Click on the name of a user journey to view the user journey flow. Each step in the User Journey State Flow will be shown in a numbered list and will be plotted in the model canvas corresponding to their step’s number. If a the state is in error, i.e., missing state, the step will be highlighted with a warning.

Import a User Journey

Follow these steps to import real user journeys from Real Customer Insights.

Prerequisites:

  • A link to the data file containing user journeys from the RCI platform.
  • At least one model that represents your application so that real user journeys can be mapped appropriately.

Import

  1. Go to Designer > User Journeys.
  2. Click Import from RCI.
  3. Select the model that the user journey data relates to.
  4. In the User Journeys File box, enter the URL of the user journeys data file, then click Import.

Mapping to Model Elements

If the URL of the user journeys data file is valid then a mapping table is displayed representing RCI tags from the user journey data.

  1. In the Model Element column, select the most appropriate state or action to map to the RCI tag. For example, if the model tag relates to the Login page, then map it to the relevant Login state or action type in the model. You can only link each state or action to one RCI tag.

  2. When all the RCI tags have a Status of Linked, click Next. A list of user journeys appears.

  3. Select the user journeys that you want to import. Look at the details in both of the following columns to help you to decide:

    • RCI Flow: Represents the specific sequence of states or actions taken in a user journey.
    • Type: Lists the categories the selected user journey falls under: Highest Value, Most Common, Most Errors. Some journeys can have more than one type.
