Prerequisites for Citrix HTML5 Browser Connections

In order for Eggplant Gateway to establish Citrix HTML5 browser connections, your systems must meet the requirements on both the client machine (where Eggplant Gateway is running) and the Citrix server.

Client Requirements

Eggplant Gateway (epgw) and Eggplant Functional (EPF) act as clients connecting to a Citrix Server. These are the prerequisites for the client machine where epgw and Eggplant Functional (EPF) are installed.

Citrix HTML5 SDK

You need to download the Citrix Workspace app for HTML5 SDK as described below.

AppSteps to Download
Citrix Workspace app for HTML 5 SDK1. Go to the Citrix Workspace app for HTML5 SDK download page.
2. Select Citrix Workspace app SDK 2505.10 for HTML5.

Browser Engine

The browser-based Citrix HTML 5 connections in epgw support the following Chromium-based browsers:

AppSteps to Download
Auto-downloaded ChromiumIf Edge is not available, epgw can automatically download a specific version of Chromium (v1528745).
Microsoft EdgeIf you have Microsoft Edge installed, epgw can use it. The default path on Windows is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe. Browser executable path can be assign via CLI. For more information on this. method, see Citrix Connectiosn with HTML5
Custom Chromium VersionYou can specify a path to a custom version of Chromium.

Citrix Workspace App

The Citrix Workspace app is not required on the client machine for this connection method.

Local Web Server

The epgw will start a local web server on a random port to facilitate the Citrix session. This is an internal process and requires no configuration, but you should be aware that it will use a localhost port (e.g., http://localhost:60962).

Citrix Server Requirements

To work with epgw, your systems must meet the following requirements for the Citrix Server:

Enable Citrix Workspace app for HTML5

The Citrix environment must have the Citrix Workspace app for HTML5 enabled on the Citrix StoreFront. For information about how to enable it, see the Install Storefront page in the Citrix documentation.

How to Verify HTML5 is Enabled

You can check if your Citrix environment supports HTML5 connections with the following steps:

  1. Log in to your Citrix StoreFront portal using a web browser (like Chrome or Edge).
  2. Launch a virtual desktop or application.
  3. Observe the result:
    • If the session opens within the browser tab, HTML5 is enabled.
    • If an .ica file is downloaded, and you need to open it to start the session, then HTML5 is not enabled for your account, and you are using the traditional ICA-based connection.

If HTML5 is not enabled, you will need to contact your Citrix administrator to have it configured.
