Eggplant Manager Administration

Administering the Eggplant Manager application includes creating users, systems under test (SUTs), and repositories, as well as managing licenses and setting system-wide test defaults. You perform all of these tasks within the Eggplant Manager GUI in your web browser.

Note: Only users with the Administrator role can see and access the Admin menu.

Administering Eggplant Manager also includes starting and stopping the Eggplant Manager processes. The Eggplant Manager processes start and stop automatically when their host computer restarts. However, you can also start and stop them manually by using the Start menu options, the service control on Windows, or by running scripts through a command line interface (CLI) for Mac and Linux. The user you log in to the computer with might need administrator privileges to perform these tasks.

Information about where to find detailed information about all of these tasks follows.

Creating Users, SUTs, and Repositories

You create users, SUTs, and repositories in the Eggplant Manager GUI through your web browser. To complete these creations, use options on the Admin menu. When you install Eggplant Manager, the Setup program creates an administrator user (username: admin, password: admin) to get you started.

See the following topics for detailed instructions for performing these administration tasks:

Note: Before using Eggplant Manager to create and run a test, an administrator must create at least one repository and one SUT.

Managing Licenses and Setting System-Wide Test Defaults

Managing licenses and setting system-wide test defaults involve completing administration tasks that you perform after your Eggplant Manager test system is operational. You perform these tasks in the Eggplant Manager GUI through your web browser. These task completions involve options in the Eggplant Manager System Preferences, which is an option on the Admin menu.

Descriptions of these tasks, and where to go for detailed instructions for performing them, follow:

  • Setting System-Wide Test Defaults This option lets you specify any Eggplant Functional command-line arguments you want to pass to Eggplant Functional for all test runs. You can find the list of options on the Eggplant Command Line Options page and the Runscript Command Line Options page in the Eggplant Functional documentation.
  • Managing licenses You provide a license when you install Eggplant Manager. However, as part of on-going administration, you might want to view that license, or need to add or delete a license. For information about working with licenses, see Managing Licenses in Eggplant Manager.

Starting and Stopping Eggplant Manager

You start and stop the Eggplant Manager processes at the operating system level, not within the Eggplant Manager GUI. You use the Start menu options or the Services control on Windows, or you run scripts through a command line interface (CLI) on Mac and Linux.

See the following topics for detailed instructions for performing these administration tasks:

Note: You might need a user with administrator privileges on the computer where Eggplant Manager is installed to perform these tasks. Contact your IT department to determine if your computer user needs any special privileges to perform these tasks.
