Prerequisites

There are a few prerequisites to creating and establishing RDP connections in Eggplant Test applications. For an introduction to RDP connections in Eggplant Test applications, see RDP Connections Overview.

Prerequisites for RDP Connections

Important

Some IT department policies prevent you from enabling the Remote Desktop setting. If this is the case at your site, contact your IT department to determine if it will be possible to enable RDP for your test systems.

Before you can successfully establish a connection with a SUT using an RDP connection, you must ensure your systems meet the following prerequisites:

PrerequisiteDescription
Enable Remote Desktop on the Windows SUTBefore you can successfully use an Eggplant Test RDP-type connection to connect to a Windows SUT, you must enable Remote Desktop in the Windows System settings on the system you want to use for a SUT. How you enable it varies with the Windows operating system version. For Windows 11, for example, you would follow these steps:
1. Type remote desktop settings in the search bar in the lower left corner of your Windows desktop. The Windows Settings app should open with the Remote Desktop setting displayed.
2. Locate the Enable Remote Desktop slider, and slide it to On.
Ensure the SUT is configured to use TLS version 1.2 or aboveAny SUT that you want to connect to using RDP must be configured to use at least Transport Layer Security (TLS) version 1.2. (Current Versions of Eggplant Test applications do not support the deprecated TLS 1.0 and 1.1 standards. For more information, see RFC 8996: Deprecating TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1).
Enable Audio on Virtual Machines (VMs) if necessarySome virtual machines, such as those hosted in AWS, may not be enabled for audio. If you know this is the case, or you create an RDP connection and the audio doesn't work. You may need to enable audio on your VM.
