SenseTalk Dictionary (Preview)
This is a work in progress. Many definitions are incomplete or badly formatted. Please excuse the dust while we continue working. Feedback is welcome.
Terms included in the SenseTalk Dictionary are primarily limited to those that are part of the core SenseTalk language. Eggplant Functional specific terminology is not comprehensive at this time.
The SenseTalk Dictionary is a comprehensive collection of all of the words and symbols that have some meaning in the core SenseTalk language, along with a brief description of each term.
What the dictionary is:
- The dictionary is intended as a reference to provide insight into each word and how it is used.
- It may be used to look up a term whose use may be unfamiliar, or to look for words related to a concept.
- It may also be used to explore the language, discover related terms and functionality, or simply to browse for new discoveries and insights.
What the dictionary is not:
- The dictionary is not a complete reference or description of the language.
- The descriptions are mostly quite brief, and are not intended to fully describe every use or variation of the term. For that, please refer to the full documentation.
In general, each word or symbol is listed and described on its own page. When a word has multiple meanings in different contexts, each usage is described. In some cases when a word is part of more than one command they may be listed separately -- for example, the answer
command and the answer file
command appear as two separate entries in the dictionary.
Each entry identifies the role of the term in SenseTalk, such as Command, Function, Operator, Global Property, and so forth. Sometimes these roles overlap and may not be entirely distinct, such as some functions and operators. For example, in the expression X squared
the word "squared" is treated as an operator, but in square root of X
"square root of" is considered a function. The distinction is not very important since both functions and operators perform operations that produce a value.
Terms in the dictionary are current as of SenseTalk 2.06 (September 2021) - more recently-added terms may be missing or incomplete.
